Lots of new and returning programs kick off this week

Anna Paquin portrays Sookie Stackhouse in “True Blood.” The drama’s final season begins this week on HBO.

Fang fans: “True Blood” is back for its final season alongside a slew of other new and returning programs, including the final season of “Wilfred.” Here’s what caught my eye this week:

Sunday: “Rising Star,” 8 p.m., ABC: Want to tell a singer how bad she is? In this new competitive singing series, there’s an app for that.

“The Musketeers,” 8 p.m., BBC America: Relax. This new drama is about royal bodyguards in 17th century France, not my second favorite candy bar.

“True Blood,” 8 p.m., HBO: Fangs for the memories. The seventh and final season begins.

“The Last Ship,” 8 p.m., TNT: The Navy tries to wipe out a virus (no, not that one) in this new apocalyptic adventure series from executive producer Michael Bay.

“Falling Skies,” 9 p.m., TNT: Season 4 begins. As always, viewers expecting a Henny Penny cameo will be disappointed.

Monday: “Under the Dome: Inside Chester’s Mill,” 9 p.m., CBS: Relive all of the first season’s ridiculous plot twists and horrible dialogue in this one-hour catch-up special.

“Teen Wolf,” 9 p.m., MTV: Season 4 begins. Howl it do?

“POV,” 9 p.m., PBS: Season 27 kicks off with “When I Walk,” filmmaker Jason DaSilva’s documentary chronicling his own life after a multiple sclerosis diagnosis at age 25.

Tuesday: “American Experience,” 8 p.m., PBS: The documentary “Freedom Summer” chronicles student and local activism in 1964 Mississippi.

“Tyrant,” 9 p.m., FX: This Middle East-set political drama could be the next great FX series.

“Covert Affairs,” 9 p.m., USA: Season 5 begins.

Wednesday: “Big Brother,” 7 p.m., CBS: Isn’t Big Brother supposed to watch us?

“Wilfred,” 9 p.m., FXX: The final season of the quirky comedy begins with back-to-back episodes.

“Taxi Brooklyn,” 9 p.m., NBC: This new police comedy pairs a cop and a cabbie. Sounds fare.

Thursday: “Ali-Frazier 1: One Nation … Divisible,” 6 p.m., HBO Sports: Documentarians explore the early ‘70s U.S. cultural divide through the lens of the Muhammad Ali/Joe Frazier heavyweight championship fight.

“NY Med,” 9 p.m., ABC: Season 2 of this documentary series follows the denizens of New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

Friday: “Girl Meets World,” 8:45 p.m., Disney: Bet this is the only place on TV you hear, “This is my mom, Topanga.”

Saturday: “Buying Naked,” 9 p.m., TLC: Folks look for homes in nudist communities. It’s the only time you’ll hear potential buyers complaining about too much closet space.
