Get your hands dirty with springtime crawfish boils you can’t miss

’Tis the season. Crawfish season, that is. The season may have gotten delayed a bit because of Hurricane Harvey and unusually cold temperatures across Texas this winter, but never fear, the mudbugs are here. Here’s a roundup of where you can find the messy, spicy, delicious little critters across the Austin area in the coming months.

TLC Austin, the new seafood restaurant in the Lamar Union complex, is hosting its inaugural crawfish boil all day March 3 with all-you-can-eat crawfish and hush puppies for $35. The party doesn’t stop once the crawfish supply runs out, either. There will be $5 drink specials and $5 oysters all night long.

Northern Fir Beard Co. is hosting its First Annual Eastside Crawfish Boil on March 3 with all the fixins — we’re talking sausage, corn-on-the-cob and potatoes — DJs, outdoor games and plenty of drinks to wash down the crawfish.

There will be mudbugs galore at the Tech Ridge location of Little Woodrow’s with a crawfish boil March 3 featuring live music from Gumbo Ya Ya.

Black Sheep Lodge’s annual crawfish boil is back this year on March 10. What better way to kick off (or avoid) South by Southwest than with crawfish? $9 gets you about a pound and a half of crawfish and veggies, and BSL will have its “White Trash Can Beers” special (that’s $2 Lone Star, Lone Star Light, Coors and PBR) as well as other drink specials and, yes, even Jell-O shots.

In case you didn’t get enough crawfish to kick off SXSW, Whisler’s crawfish boil featuring live music and more is back on March 11.

Wine and crawfish? Sure. The Austin Winery will be serving up “Viet-style” crawfish paired with their wine on March 17. Tickets are $20 and get you garlic butter crawfish, corn, potatoes and a glass of wine.

Gibson Street Bar is going big with 1,000 pounds of crawfish on April 7. The boil, a family-friendly affair, will also have a draft beer takeover, live music, games and much more. Pay $8 per pound or $25 for all-you-can-eat.

“Mudbugs and beer” — the perfect combination from Rattle Inn on April 14. The family-friendly crawfish boil is $8 per pound of crawfish or $25 for all-you-can-eat, complete with corn and potatoes.

What goes best with crawfish? Texas music, of course. On April 14, William Clark Green is shutting down the street in front of Cheatham Street Warehouse in San Marcos to throw a huge outdoor party and crawfish boil. The same popular venue is hosting another crawfish boil on April 29 featuring Read Southall Band, charging $15 for unlimited crawfish and live music.

Speaking of crawfish and Texas music — the 14th annual Lone Star Crawfish Festival is back for the ultimate crawdad feast on April 22 at Stubb’s with music from Jackopierce and Pat Green.
