‘Weird Al’ Yankovic and more big names in comedy coming to Austin for Moontower 2018
Song parody ninja “Weird Al” Yankovic, Mike Birbiglia and Tiffany Haddish are all scheduled to perform in Austin at the seventh annual Moontower Comedy Festival on April 18-21, 2018. Festival badges are now on sale.
As in previous years, Moontower 2018 will hold headliner shows at the Paramount & Stateside Theatres and additional stand-upacts at Cap City Comedy Club, while also booking shows at various walkable downtown venues.
Yankovic will be ?performing as part of his “The Ridiculously Self-Indulgent, Ill-Advised Vanity Tour” – a stripped-down, no-frills production scheduled to run through June. This has been advertised as a no-song-parodies tour -- as Yankovic put it on Facebook: “We’re going to be performing almost exclusively originals (i.e. not parodies). The deep cuts and obscure tracks. The songs that were never hits. The ones you barely remember.” (I would like to hear “Midnight Star” and “Mr. Popeil,” please.)
Emo Philips will open.
You may remember comedian, actor, and filmmaker Birbiglia from such comedy specials as “Sleepwalk with Me” or “Thank God for Jokes.” He was also in “Orange is the New Black,” which I still find odd.
Performing at Moontower for the first time is comedian and actor Haddish. Most recently, she starred in the popular 2017 comedy “Girls Trip,” and she played Hi-C in “Keanu” alongside Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key.
Moontower Comedy Festival badges, including the Star Level 1-4 ($350 early bird on Star Level 4), Warrior ($179 early bird) and Satellite ($79 early bird) are on sale now at early bird rates and available for purchase at moontowercomedyfest.com. You can also purchase badges at the Paramount Theatre box office or by calling 512-474-1221.
