Celebrate Zilker Park’s 100th birthday — for free

To celebrate Zilker Park’s 100th anniversary, admission to Barton Springs Pool, Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum, the Austin Nature and Science Center, Zilker Botanical Garden and the Zilker Zephyr is free all day Sunday; parking is also free but limited. Officials also will open the newly renovated Zilker Caretaker Cottage next to the pool, read a Zilker 100 proclamation and unveil a special mobile Zilker 100 art installation perfect for selfies. 16th Annual South Asian New Year Festival. The South Asian New Year Festival, or “Pohela Boishakh,” is an annual outdoor celebration showcasing the culture and diversity of South Asia. The stage at the Zilker Hillside Theater will spotlight live dance and music performances along with authentic programs highlighting the culture. Attendees will enjoy food and merchandise available in the bazaar, including ethnic clothing, jewelry, crafts, henna and more. 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. April 8. Free. Spring Native Plant Sale at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Love Texas landscapes? Grow native plants with the help of this sale, which will offer hundreds of species of Texas natives, including seeds, annual wildflowers, grasses, perennials, wetland plants, shrubs and trees. Not only are they beautiful, but native plants help conserve water, reduce mowing costs, provide habitat for birds, butterflies and other wildlife, protect the soil, and save money on fertilizer and pesticides.
