The ABC Zilker Kite Festival is a springtime tradition in Austin. JAY JANNER / AMERICAN-STATESMAN 2016

The ABC Zilker Kite Festival is one of Austin’s favorite spring traditions. This year’s fest is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Zilker Park (2100 Barton Springs Road). You can make a kite, buy kites, fly your own kite or just enjoy watching all the colorful kites dancing in the air. The family-friendly activities include the return of MossFest, a children’s concert with bands such as Hey Lolly, Trout Fishing in America and more. There’s also face painting, inflatables, balloon artists, a hair braid bar, food vendors and a Doggie Den for your canine companions. And if you’re feeling competitive, you can enter the kite contest with your homemade kite. Parking is available at the state garage at 1604 Colorado St. and at the Burger Activity Center, 3200 Jones Road. Shuttles will bring you to the park for $5 for people 12 and older.
