After selling out the Bass Concert Hall for three performances, organizers of Austin’s annual Moontower Comedy and Oddity Festival have added a fourth performance by hot comic Aziz Ansari. The “Parks and Recreation” star is one of the biggest standup acts going. Lauded by Paste magazine and The Onion, Azari was named “the funniest man under 30” by Rolling Stone.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Thurs., Feb. 20 for the added show, which takes place at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, April 19.
The event is sponsored by Moontower, but the Ansari performances are not included with a festival badge and tickets must be purchased separately.
Likewise for “Miranda Sings,” added as a separate non-badge event to close out the Festival.
The wildly popular YouTube sensation has added a second performance featuring the character performing comedy, hit songs, magic tricks and dramatic readings of hate mail. Try to pick out the real Miranda from the Where’s Waldo-esque crowd of look-alikes who always show up with pulled back hair, arch eyebrows and badly-applied, bright red lipstick on their crooked smiles.
Miranda’s newly-added performance takes place at 7 p.m. Sun., Apr. 27 at Stateside at the Paramount and tickets are on sale now.
Tickets for “Miranda Sings” can be purchased at www.austintheatre.org or by calling 512-474-1221.
