Thursday’s Pick: JD McPherson

Rachel Corbelli

JD McPherson’s 1950’s rock and roll sound is so authentic,  his music makes the air smell like burgers, milkshakes, and hairspray. But this renaissance man doesn’t just take from the past. In his cover of Tiny Kennedy’s  “Country Boy,” he borrows some eclectic piano loops from Wu-Tang-Clan’s ’93 LP Enter the Wu. This singer-songwriter and guitarist from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma will seamlessly meld the best of old and new at the Belmont on Thursday, October 23 at 8 p.m.

McPherson’s debut album, Signs and Signifiers, topped Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums chart after its 2012 release. It also reached number 47 on the Billboard Rock Albums chart. The only single from the album, “Your Love (All That I’m Missing)” was released in the UK in June 2012. A few months later, The Rolling Stone called him an “Artist to Watch.”

Tickets are $18 in advance; $20 at the door.
