Dismember the Alamo
The Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar (1120 S Lamar Blvd) hosts a marathon of four horror film classics, but the lineup will remain a secret until just before showtime. Expect horrific surprises.

The Thinkery (1830 Simond Ave), Austin’s new children’s museum, celebrates the holiday with spooky science, crafts, not-so-scary storytime, and a reptile variety show by All Around Austin Exotic Pets. This is a candy-free event, but kids can come in costume.

Symphony of Terror
The Austin Symphony‘s renditions of hair-raising music from famous horror films will get you in the Halloween spirit. Costumes are encouraged.

Dia De Los Muertos Festival
Celebrate life and family members departed with the entire family at the Oswaldo A.B. Cantu/Pan American Recreation Center (2100 East 3rd St). Live music, an altar contest, sugar skulls, and the H.E.B. Kid’s Zone await.
Details: Saturday, October 25 from 12 p.m.-10 p.m. Tickets are $15 online, $20 cash at the door.
The House of Torment
The award-winning haunted house has reopened for another year of relentless terror. With three different attractions, even the bravest thrill-seekers will be entertained.

Boo at the Zoo
Take a ride on the haunted train and see how the animals spend their holiday. The zoo will be decorated and illuminated for the occasion. Tickets include train ride and unlimited haunted house visits.
Details: Saturday and Sunday, October 24-25 from 6:30 p.m.-9 p.m. Tickets $12.50.
Pumpkin Carving Competition
Pick a pumpkin at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden & Museum (605 Robert E. Lee Rd) and follow Professor Pumpkin’s steps to carving a masterpiece. Then, win prizes and bragging rights by entering the competition.
Details: Sunday, October 26. 12-4 p.m. Free entry with donation of a nonperishable food item to Captial Area Food Bank.
The Domain Halloween Party on the Plaza
Enjoy store-to-store trick-or-treating, live music, face painting, balloon animals, games, and giveaways at The Domain (11410 Century Oaks Terrace). Come in costume!

Ghosts of Shoal Creek Walking Tour
Ted Lee Eubanks leads a free walking tour of Shoal Creek that traces the ghosts of Austin’s Past. The walk begins at the South Entrance of Pease Park (1100 Kingsbury St., Austin, TX, 78703) and ends at Custer’s Meadow. Flashlights and costumes are optional.
