Fun Fun Fun preview: Sarah Silverman, Patton Oswalt and more big names will make you laugh at the Yellow Stage
Let’s face it — in its early years, the comedy portion of Fun Fun Fun Fest was just, well, “Fun.” It started to get “Fun Fun” between 2009 and 2012, when organizers began to bring in names such as Brian Posehn, Weird Al Yankovic, Donald Glover and David Cross.
But this weekend, Fun Fun Fun comedy has hit its stride with its largest roster of big names yet.
Sarah Silverman, last here during South by Southwest, performs standup at 11 p.m. Friday at the State Theater and 5:25 p.m. Sunday on the Yellow Stage at Auditorium Shores (that stage is sponsored by JASH, the comedy network she co-founded on YouTube). “Star Wars”-ranter Patton Oswalt headlines the Yellow Stage at 5:20 p.m. Friday.
Tenacious D (Jack Black and Kyle Gass) are set to comically rock the Fest twice on Saturday, headlining the Yellow Stage at 5:20 p.m. and the Mohawk at 11:20 p.m.
Craig Robinson (Darryl on “The Office) and Jenny Slate (Marcel the Shell With Shoes On) also play the Yellow Stage and the Mohawk on Saturday. The Yellow Stage hosts Slate at 3:35 p.m. and Robinson at 4:35 p.m., while Slate hits the Mohawk at 10:20 p.m. and Robinson follows at 10:55 p.m.
That’s more big names than ever, and they’re joined by some of the best of Austin’s local comics, including Matt Bearden, Maggie Maye, Cody Hustak, Ryan Cownie and Katie Pengra.
If this keeps up, they might have to call it “Fun Fun Fun Fun Fest” next year.
