Mongers seafood moving into former Vino Vino space in Hyde Park
One of Austin’s top seafood restaurants is preparing to sail north. Mongers Market + Kitchen will end its run of service on East Cesar Chavez Street this weekend and soon thereafter move into the longtime home of Vino Vino at the edge of Hyde Park.
The new restaurant, which will be able to hold double the diners of the original, plans to offer more whole-fish specialties and chef-prepared grab-and-go dishes, and will feature a bigger fish market and full bar. In addition to seafood offerings, including a raw bar, Mongers will also serve dishes that feature non-seafood proteins. Owners Julie and Shane Stark, a veteran of Kenichi and Paggi House, plan to open at their new location at 4119 Guadalupe St. late next week and intend to release their Covid-related procedural changes in the coming days.
Chef Shane Stark opened Mongers in 2015 before the rush of upmarket restaurants arrived in the neighborhood. The Starks had planned to move the restaurant and market earlier this spring before the coronavirus interrupted every aspect of the city’s dining scene.
