Coronavirus in Austin: Take-out service and closures at restaurants
Travis County’s bars and restaurant dining rooms were closed and gatherings of 10 or more people were prohibited in the latest coronavirus restrictions Mayor Steve Adler and Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt enacted March 17.
Restaurants have been allowed to shift to take-out and drive-thru service. Additionally, all bars must close completely, while the mayor indicated food trucks will be allowed to continue servicing to-go orders. The restrictions took effect at noon Tuesday and last until May 1.
The decision, which mirrors those made from California to New York in recent days, will obviously shake up the Central Texas dining landscape in an unprecedented way.
Some Austin restaurants had already shifted their business models because of the coronavirus pandemic, and now many more will follow. Some, however, will choose to temporarily close their doors altogether.
Below is a continually updated list of what restaurants have closed and which ones are limiting their service to take-out and drive-thru. There are so many restaurants offering delivery through third-party vendors that they could not be included here.
If you have a restaurant you like, look it up online or via their social media channels. It’s more likely than not that they are offering takeout. There are also sites crowd-sourcing takeout options, like takeouttracker.com, which has not been vetted for accuracy by the Statesman.

Restaurants offering take-out, drive-thru
ATX Cocina. The modern Mexican restaurant started offering takeout via Tock on April 2. Orders can be placed online through Tock or by calling the restaurant at 512-263-2322. Menu items include, but are not limited to, taco kits, a la carte tacos, cuts of meat, and a margarita de la casa kit for two. Service runs daily from 3 to 8:30 p.m.
Austin Land & Cattle. The restaurant on Lamar Boulevard is serving its full dinner menu via curbside and takeout service. Diners can call 512-472-183 or visit alcsteaks.com.
Bartlett’s Restaurant. The American grill is offering curbside pickup of to-go food by calling 512-451-7333.
Batch Kolaches and Craft Beer. The bakery and brewery is only offering to-go service and is not accepting cash. Pre-orders of two dozen or more can be made through Emily (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Better Half. The all-day cafe is offering take-out service.
Brick Oven Pizza. The pizza restaurant is offering call-in and online orders between 11 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Casa Chapala Mexican Cuisine & Tequila Bar. Casa Chapala is serving Tequila Man Margaritas, martinis, micheladas and more to-go when you order takeout food at 512-459-4242.
Casa Colombia. The Colombian restaurant is serving takeout via a table set up outside of the East Austin restaurant.
Chez Zee. The Northwest Hills American bistro is serving lunch and dinner, along with half-price desserts, via curbside service. Call 512-454-2666 to order.
Chuy’s. You can order takeout by phone or online.
Contigo. The ranch-inspired restaurant is offering drive-thru service and adding options daily. They hope to include a Dinner for 4 option Tuesday or Wednesday and hope to soon add lunch service.
Cooper’s Sandwiches. Keep your space while ordering a sandwich to go from the shop next to Milano Cafe on Southwest Parkway.
Counter Cafe. The East Austin location is taking call-in orders at 512-351-9961 for curbside/take out.
Cover 2 and Cover 3. The sports bars are offering takeout and curbside pickup daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with a 15%-off discounted price for any pickup orders placed directly through the restaurant.
Cruzteca. The taqueria from the owners of Mellizoz Tacos truck is offering online and call-in ordering (512-291-7726), with curbside all day and delivery option at dinner.
Dai Due. The locavores at Jesse Griffiths’ restaurant is serving its regular menu. Guests can call 512-524-0688 and pick up inside or at the window around back.
Doc B’s Restaurant + Bar. The restaurant is partnering with DoorDash to offer free delivery within a three-mile radius through docbsdelivery.com.
Donut Taco Palace. You can order online or call in to 512-891-6746.
Easy Tiger. The Linc location will set up a drive-up and delivery service starting Wednesday.
Emmer & Rye. One of the city’s best restaurants is serving a special to-go menu that includes mesquite sausage, grilled broccoli and cacio e pepe pasta.
Epicerie. The cafe is serving family meals for four with options like Parisienne gnocchi with chanterelle mushrooms and chargrilled Caesar salad for $45. Taking call-in and online orders at epicerieaustin.com.
Fogo de Chao. Offering takeout and delivery (free for orders over $50), along with fresh butchered meats for you to cook at home.Call 512-472-0220 to order.
Fonda San Miguel. The interior Mexican stalwart is offering curbside pick-up from 4 to 7 p.m. The menu includes cochinita pibil and grilled pork chop for two or four and half and whole rotisserie chickens. If placing your dinner before 4 .p.m, call 512-459-3401; if ordering during curbside hours, call 512-459-4121.
Foreign & Domestic. One of the top restaurants in the city is offering take-out service complemented by online ordering.
Franklin Barbecue. The barbecue titans are offering online ordering and curbside to-go service. They hope to add delivery soon. Ten percent of their sales will go to supporting the Austin Relief Fund of Southern Smoke Foundation.
Guero’s Taco Bar. The South Congress Avenue staple is serving takeout daily from 2 to 6 p.m., as well as margarita kits.

Habanero Mexican Cafe. The South Austin Mexican stalwart is offering its full menu for to-go ordering. Diners can also call 512-416-0443 for curbside pick up. The usually cash-only restaurant will be accept credit and debit cards during this time.
Hat Creek Burgers. All locations are offering takeout and drive-thru service, and online ordering is available.
Home Slice Pizza. Both locations of the wildly popular pizza restaurant are offering take-out via call in and online. Orders will be delivered curbside.
Hopdoddy. The gourmet burger chain is offering its full menu for curbside pickup, with orders placed online or by phone.
Intero Ristorante. The Italian restaurant is offering family-style takeout meals from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday. They are offering vegetarian, classic, fancy and Sunday roast options and ask that guests place orders by 3 p.m. A la carte selections and dessert are also available. Additionally, the restaurant is offering cooking classes via Skype and advance selling dinner parties for when they can reopen their dining room.
Intero is offering a curbside pickup and delivery options. Delivery is free under two miles and $2 for every mile after. All delivery fees benefit staff. Members of the service industry will receive 20 percent off their order.
InterStellar BBQ. The Top Five barbecue spot near Anderson Mill is serving to-go food, including fully cooked briskets for $110.
Juniper. The Italian restaurant is re-opening after a temporary closure with a new takeout and delivery menu starting April 9. Order a la carte or order a customizable family meal. Available daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Place orders online at juniperaustin.com, calling 512-220-9421, or order for delivery on Favor. First responders and medical professionals can receive 25% discount by using the code FIRSTAID and showing their ID at pick-up.
Justine’s. The French brasserie is offering takeout and curbside service, including wine, champagne and a few mixed drinks. Call 512-385-2900 on Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 9pm.
Kemuri Tatsu-Ya. The Asian smokehouse is offering takeout via online ordering 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., avaiable via the service window on the restaurant’s front patio. To-go menu includes items like brisket, “country style” spicy pork ribs, and smoked chicken. Beverages like assorted sakes, Royal Milk Tea, Ramune, and Okinawan Sweet Tea, by the gallon or half gallon, are also available.
Kerbey Lane Cafe. All locations are offering online ordering, delivery, and curbside pickup from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Additionally, kids eat free all day every day—for every adult entrée purchased, receive one kids meal free of charge.
La Barbecue. The Top 10 barbecue spot is serving its regular barbecue menu, using online ordering for same-day pickup at the East Austin store.
Le Bleu. One of the city’s best Vietnamese restaurants is taking orders via phone at 512-770-1100 or online at lebleuatx.com. They’re also offering free delivery of orders of $25 or more within a three-mile radius.
Lenoir. One of Austin’s top restaurants is offering to-go curbside service. The online menu is evolving, and all bottles of wine are 40 percent off menu price. Until their online ordering system is up, you can call 512-215-9778 or email email@example.com.
Loro. The restaurant from Aaron Franklin and Tyson Cole is offering to-go orders with a dedicated entry on the restaurant’s north side. Call 512-916-4858.
Maudie’s Tex Mex. Five of the seven Maudie’s locations are open (South Lamar and Triangle are temporarily closed), serving from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. They’re offering takeout, curbside, and cocktail kits at most locations while supplies last, and as of March 26 were planning on rolling out online ordering soon.
McGuire Moorman Hospitality. Lamberts, Elizabeth Street Cafe, June’s, Swedish Hill, Jeffrey’s, Lou’s, Joann’s Fine and Pool Burger are all offering to-go service with call-in ordering.
Milano Cafe. The Italian restaurant on Southwest Parkway is taking call-in orders at 512-428-6076 and offering curbside service.
Mozart’s Coffee Roasters. The lakeside coffee shop has teamed with Black’s Barbecue of Lockhart to provide drive-thru barbecue meals that can be ordered by phone at 512-447-9200 or online at mozartscoffee.com/black-n-brew/. The barbecue meals can feed two to four ($57.95), six to eight ($68.95) or eight to 10 ($77.95). They include brisket, sausage, pretzels, desserts and all of the fixins.
Nixta Taqueria. The fantastic taqueria, which we reviewed late last year, is taking call-in orders for curbside delivery of tacos, beer and wine. Call 512-551-3855.
P. Terry’s. All locations with drive-thru service and walk-up window service will continue serving customers.
Parkside Projects. Olive & June, Parkside, Backspace, Vamonos and Jugo are all offering take-out via online and call-in orders, and they are all offering 50-percent off call-in meals for hospitality workers.
Peached Tortilla. The Asian fusion restaurant is offering curbside pickup for their current takeout menu in addition to a new menu of Peached Tortilla Family Meals. Online ordering can be done here.
Perry’s Steakhouse. The two locations are selling a $29 curbside lunch menu that includes an entree, salad, side or dessert. The dinner specials range from a $32 heat-and-eat 16-ounce prime rib with whipped potatoes, along with a $45 three-course dinner and $50 four-course menu. Bottles of Perry’s Reserve wine are half price, others are 25-percent off; cocktail kits prepared for six drinks and include alcohol and pre-portioned mix, cost $45. Call to order.
Pho Please. The Vietnamese cafe that landed on our Top 10 best banh mi in the city list is taking call-in and online orders for takeout.
Pluckers. Chicken wing specialists are offering contactless delivery and curbside pickup at all of their locations beginning Wednesday. All orders must be placed online at order.pluckers.com or through the Pluckers app.
Poke Poke. The poke makers are offering take-out service complemented by online ordering at its three locations.
Quality Seafood. The seafood market and restaurant is serving lunch and dinner from a food truck stationed outside the restaurat and market. Inside, they’re selling fresh and frozen seafood, along with ground beef, chicken, eggs and more.
Quatro Gatti. The downtown Italian restaurant is offering take-out from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday.
Ramen Tatsu-Ya. All three locations of the ramen shop are serving their entire menu for takeout daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Guests can order online at tatsuya.revelup.com/weborder.
Royal Fig. The catering company is selling an array of meals and a la carte dishes, from short ribs to enchiladas, for individuals and groups. The South Austin company is also one of a number of food service businesses selling groceries, as well.
Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. The downtown steakhouse is serving a la carte dishes and offering a $40 prixe fixe to-go menu that includes a salad, choice of petite filet, petite ribeye, New York strip, stuffed chicken breast, king salmon filet, or six-ounce filet and shrimp, and a side of mashed potatoes, vreamed spinach or broccoli. If you want more than a meal for one, they’re also making meals for four to six people. Order online or call 512-477-7884.
Scholz Garten. The German beer hall is offering curbside pickup of their MASH (Mobile Austin Sausage Haus) menu. The $10 menu includes choice of wurst, wurst holder, toppings, sauces and side.
South Congress Cafe. The restaurant is offering call-in and online orders for take-out.
ThunderCloud Subs. All 29 locations of the Austin instiution are serving takeout. Customers can order online at thundercloud.com or call in specific locations, or use delivery services. Store hours are subject to change. Check individual location’s info on the website for the latest.
Uchi. One of the state’s top sushi destinations is releasing a limited, value-driven menu for curbside pickup. Starting this Friday you will be able to call-in orders at Uchi, selecting from a menu of Uchi classics like the hama chili cold tasting ($17), fried chicken karaage ($10.50), oak grilled escolar ($16.50), more than a half-dozen nigiri pieces and six rolls, including pork belly with yolk custard ($10.50). Diners can also order wine, beer and sake for curbside pick-up. Every order purchased will also come with a $25 gift card for dine-in use when the restaurants reopen.
Uchiko. Uchi’s sibling will offer a curbside Uchiko-go menu for two for $85, available Friday through Sunday starting April 10. It includes five dishes and dessert, as well as a bottle of Pali Wine Co. 2016 Riviera Pinot Noir. The dishes included are roasted miso soup; edamame/jalapeno hummus and wonton chips; hama chili; kimchi rice with furikake; yuzu ice cream (a pint) with pistachio crumble and strawberry compote; and a choice of 72-hour short rib or halibut, both served with grilled maitake mushroom, bonito butter, spicy ponzu and red onion. You can also add on fresh banana bread. Guests can place orders up to three days in advance via OpenTable or by phone at 512-916-4808. Phone lines open at 2:30 p.m. to take orders or place your curbside reservation online up to three days in advance. Pick-up is available between 4 to and 8:30 p.m. Each curbside order to come with a $25 gift card, valid for dine-in use at restaurant when it reopens.
Uncle Nicky’s. The Hyde Park cade is reopening after a temporary closure on April 9 for takeout and delivery. Available daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Order online via unclenickys.com, call in to 512-222-8369 or order via Favor. Full menu, plus pints of gelato, available for purchase.
Uroko. The hand-roll specialists are serving takeout via call-in and online ordering.
Vespaio and Enoteca Vespaio. The sister Italian restaurants are offering curbside pickup of a menu that includes salads, pizzas and pasta.
Via 313. All three of the mini-chain’s restaurants and the Craft Pride trailer location are offering take-out, supplemented by online ordering and curbside delivery.
Vince Young Steakhouse. The steakhouse is serving family meals for 2 ($75), 4 ($120) and 6 ($175) that includes Caesar salad and choice of roast chicken and filet mignon with a side of Brussels sprouts or whipped potatoes. Call 512-457-8325.
Waterloo Ice House. All four of the restaurant are open, and customers can place take-out orders online, over the phone, or in-person. They can pick up in-person or opt for curbside delivery
Wholy Bagel. The William Cannon (512-899-0200) location remains open for takeout orders.
Yard Bar. Yard Bar is offering take-out food service and is trying to get clarification on the city order but thinks they will be able to allow 10 members in their outdoor area at a time, while removing seating.
Asia Market and Eatery. One of the city’s best Chinese restaurants and the grocery in which it is located have both closed until further notice. “Our safety is more important than money,” co-owner Eric Yi told the Statesman.
ATX Cocina. From a rep for the restaurant: “ATX Cocina will temporarily close all operations until further notice in efforts to protect families, staff and the community at large. Additionally, all reservations made within the next 15 days will be cancelled. This decision was not taken lightly, but ATX Cocina ultimately wants to do its part to flatten the curve and keep everyone safe. The restaurant looks forward to opening its doors again soon.”
Bar Peached. The bar and restaurant on West Sixth Street is closed until further notice.
Cafe Josie. The Clarksville-area restaurant announced on Mach 20 that it was closed until May 1.
DipDipDip Tatsu-Ya. The shabu-shabu restaurant on Burnet Road is closed until May 1.
El Chile Group. The restaurant group has closed El Chile, El Alma and Yuyo until further notice.
El Naranjo. The Mexican restaurant that moved last year from Rainey Street to South Lamar is closed until further notice.
Hillside Farmacy. The East Austin restaurant has closed until further notice.
Kerlin BBQ. The Top 10 barbecue trailer is closed until further notice.
Launderette. After a brief pivot to takeout only, the East Austin restaurant helmed by chefs Rene Ortiz and Laura Sawicki is closed for now.
L’Oca d’Oro. The Italian restaurant in Mueller took a planned three-week break that started on March 27.
McGuire Moorman Hospitality. The prolific restaurant group has closed Perla’s, Clark’s, Josephine House and its restaurants at the Austin Proper. See other list for MMH restaurants offering take-out.
New Waterloo. The hospitality group has closed pretty much all of its restaurants, including La Condesa, all Sway locations, Le Politique, Il Brutto, La Matta, Central Standard, Otoko and the bar Watertrade.
Olamaie. Chef-owner Michael Fojtasek was ahead of the curve when he announced on March 15 that he would close the No. 1 restaurant in last year’s Austin360 Dining Guide until May 1.
Texas French Bread. The campus-area bistro has closed its restaurant, though it will for the time being use a smaller staff to serve breads and pastries in its outdoor garden Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 8 to 11 a.m. If news changes and accessibility to items like hand sanitizer and thermometers increases, TFB is considering a limited menu of prepackaged, to-go lunch items.
Veracruz All-Natural. All of the operations brick-and-mortar and trailer locations have chosen to close indefinitely out of concerns for safety of guests and workers.
