Daphne's Mediterranean closes all Austin locations
Daphne’s Mediterranean, a fast-casual Greek concept owned by California-based Elite Restaurant Group, has shuttered all of its Texas locations, including the six it operated in Austin. Though Daphne's was operated by a California company, the restaurant's history traces back to an Austin original. University of Texas students Michael Heyne and Dominik Stein founded VertsKebap near campus in 2011, serving flatbread stuffed with spit-roasted meat, veggies and a sauce.
The company expanded across Texas and the country under the name Verts, then rebranded to bowl-focused Noon Mediterranean in 2017. But Noon declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy last summer, and Daphne's Mediterranean swooped in to purchase the company out of bankruptcy. Daphne's opened in Dallas before introducing its six Austin locations in March and April of this year.
