Exclusive: Kerbey Lane opening healthy concept, High Note, today

One of the restaurants most identified with local dining in Austin is expanding its scope and modernizing to meet the desires of diners looking for vibrant flavors and cleaner fuel. The team behind Kerbey Lane, which opened in 1980, is opening High Note at 300 S. Lamar Blvd. on April 16.

The all-day restaurant will play on some of the hallmarks of the original’s foundations, serving fresh and local food, but update its ethos for modern times. Terms like gluten-free, paleo and ketogenic lifestyles were not en vogue when Kerbey Lane opened almost 40 years ago, but High Note will focus on the diners in these niches, along with vegans and vegetarians, while also serving dishes made with all-natural beef, pasture-raised eggs, wild-caught salmon and antibiotic-free chicken.

Breakfast items include edamame and avocado toast with toasted sunflower seeds; soft scramble with home fries and kale; and superfood oats with berries. At lunch and dinner expect bowls studded with kimchi beef, Mediterranean quinoa or poke; a vegan Cuban sandwich; and a burger made with Akaushi beef and cashew aioli. High Note will also serve beer, wine, cocktails and a full bar.

The restaurant will fill the space formerly occupied by Flour & Vine at the bottom of the Cole building, and owners say “the menu was conceptualized from a team of chefs and restaurateurs on the forefront of health and wellness trends."

High Note will be open 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday-Friday and 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
