Where to eat on Valentine's Day in Austin

Valentine’s Day is approaching and you don’t want to be stuck choosing between DiGiorno and delivery. The greeting card-driven holiday represents one of the busiest nights of the year for restaurants, so you want to make your reservations sooner than later, lest you end up stuck cooking when you should be making googly eyes from across the table. Below are some of the Austin restaurants that will roll out special menus for the occasion. Prices are per person unless otherwise noted. Asterisks represent my top picks.

Arlo Grey. 111 E. Cesar Chavez St. 512-478-9611, The restaurant at the Line hotel overlooking Lady Bird Lake will serve a five-course prix fixe menu that includes artichoke hearts with saffron butter, aged ribeye tartare and roasted cornish game hen. Cost is $100.

*The Brewer’s Table. 4715. E. Fifth St. 512-520-8199, The brewery-restaurant will serve a four-course meal that includes venison tartare, smoked beef rib and poached strawberries. Cost is $75.

Brix and Ale. 1101 Woodlawn Ave., Georgetown. 737-444-2700, Three-course menu at the Sheraton Georgetown will serve a prix fixe menu for $55.

Cafe Josie. 1200 B W. Sixth St. 512-322-9226, The long-time Clarksville-area restaurant will serve a five-course menu with dishes that include bay scallop ceviche, smoked pork tenderloin and ok-seared yellowfin. Cost is $75.

Carpenters Hall. 400 Josephine St. 512-682-5300, The new boutique hotel is getting into the amore spirit with a four-course Italian menu that includes clams casino, insalata di mare and chicken Parmigiana. Cost is $75.

Central Standard. 1603 S. Congress Ave. 512-942-0823, The grill at the South Congress Hotel will serve a couple’s menu that includes truffled mashed potatoes, grilled broccolini and Wagyu ribeye. The cost is $75 per couple.

*Emmer & Rye. 51 Rainey St. #110. 512-366-5530, The reigning number one restaurant in Austin from the Austin360 Dining Guide will serve a prix fixe dinner menu that includes oyster with citrus mignonette, white Sonora ravioli and New York strip. Cost is $100.

*Foreign & Domestic. 306 E. 53rd St. 512-459-1010, This Top 15 restaurant in North Loop will serve a three-course menu with choices such as beef tartare, steak au poivre and gratineed scallop. Cost is $65, with wine pairings available for an additional $30.

Garrison. 101 Red River St. 512-524-4700, The fine dining restaurant at the Fairmont will feature a four-course menu with choices such as Alaskan king crab, lobster gnudi and dry-aged duck breast. Menu is available February 14-17. Cost is $95.

Greenhouse Craft Food. 1400 E. Old Settlers Blvd. #110, Round Rock. 512-366-5567, The farm-to-table restaurant will serve a Valentine’s special of a dozen oysters, two chocolate-covered strawberries and two glasses of champagne for $35.

Hideaway Kitchen & Bar. 4323 S. I-35 Frontage Road. 512-527-3007, The restaurant at the Ramada will serve a five-course dinner for $45. The special runs February 13-16.

It’s Italian Cucina. 1500 S Lamar Blvd #110. 512-482-8655, Chef Al Fini’s restaurant will serve a four-course dinner with selections like zucchini casserole, grilled artichoke and torta gianduia. Cost is $45, with wine pairings for an additional $15.

La Volpe. 201 Brazos St. Bldg B. 512-501-6713, The Italian restaurant from the Cedar Door owners will serve a four-course menu that includes grilled romaine salad with fried anchovies, butter-poached shrimp and beef tenderloin gnocchi. Cost is $75.

Las Palomas. 3201 Bee Cave Rd. 512-327-9889, West Lake Mexican classic will serve a three-course dinner with choices like ceviche, paella and steak and shrimp al tamarindo. Cost is $50.

*L’Oca d’Oro. 1900 Simond Ave. 737-212-1876, The Italian restaurant in the Mueller development will serve a themed Love Vs. Hate Valentine’s Mash-Up menu for the third year. The menus, inspired by The Cure and Metallica will feature dishes like sausage-stuffed fried olives, red snapper crudo and dark chocolate and strawberry layer cake. The menu is available February 13-16. Cost is $75, with wine pairings available for an additional $50.

*Olamaie. 1610 San Antonio St. 512-474- 2796, The refined Southern restaurant will serve a three-course menu with two options per course. Cost is $85.

Olive & June. 3411 Glenview Ave. 512-467-9898, The Italian restaurant serves a menu that includes beet salad, gemelli with pork ragu and monkfish. Cost is $90 for two.

*Parkside. 301 E. 6 Sixth St. 512-474-9898, The gastropub’s menu selections include salmon tartare, poached prawns and red velvet cake. Cost is $50.

*Pitchfork Pretty. 2708 E. Cesar Chavez St. 512-494-4593, One of the city’s best will serve a seven-course dinner with dishes like caviar with smoked egg yolk; scallop with frozen radish, buckwheat and tangerine; and beef tongue with pickles, sauce and onions. Cost is $75.

Stella Public House. 1905 Aldrich St. 512-400-0474, The restaurant in the Mueller neighborhood will serve a three-course dinner February 13-16 for $90. Cost includes a bottle of wine or champagne.

Texas French Bread. 900 Rio Grande St. 512-499-0544, The campus-area classic will serve a three-course menu with options that include shrimp mousse toast, Niman Ranch short ribs and poached Atlantic salmon with Carolina Gold rice and dark ganache tart. Cost is $50. There are seatings at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

*Uchi. 801 S. Lamar Blvd. 512-916- 4808, The king of the Austin sushi scene will serve a 12-course prix fixe menu with selections such as tea-smoked duck, cured scallop and threadfin bream crudo with green strawberry and green garlic dash. Cost is $185 for two.

*Uchiko. 4200 N. Lamar Blvd. 512-916-4808, The sleek house of sushi will serve a 10-course prix fixe meal with selections such as rainbow trout with Chinese sausage, smoked peanut and pickled peppers and Wagyu short rib with beet pave, beet gastrique and beef jus. Cost is $185 for two.

*Vino Vino. 4119 Guadalupe St. 512-465- 9282, The wine-centric restaurant will serve two four-course menus with options such as roasted beets with rose jam, New York strip and fried chicken Cost is $75, with wine pairings for an additional $35. The special menus are available February 14 and 15.
