Easy Tiger, Jester King among nation’s best according to USA Today’s 10Best
With more than 7,400 breweries in the U.S. and countless other places to enjoy craft beer, it can be hard to know where to go for quality brews. But as part of USA Today’s extensive 10Best guides, a few reader polls aim to narrow it down and find the tippity-top tier of greats.
The latest round of 10Best explores, among other things, what the best beer scenes, breweries and bars are in the country and has divided that query into several specific categories, including best beer festival and best new brewery.
“The sheer variety of quality beer on the market today can be overwhelming. We want to narrow down the field, so we're asking you to vote for your favorites in seven categories,” according to the 10Best editors, who launched the new polls on Wednesday.
Before that point, beer experts helped 10Best come up with the 20 or so finalists in each category — and you can bet a couple of beloved Austin brands have made the cut.
Easy Tiger, which recently announced an upcoming location at the former Red’s Porch in South Austin, is one of the contenders in the best beer bar category.
“With more than 30 local and boutique draft beers plus an in-house bakery producing artisan breads and pretzels, house-made sausages and a gorgeous creek-side beer garden, Easy Tiger makes it easy for Austin beer lovers to settle in for a lengthy visit,” according to 10Best. “Picnic tables and large fans in the shady garden contribute to the easy-going atmosphere, making it a great place for fine beer and conversation.”
And Jester King Brewery has been nominated in the best beer label category for Funk Metal, one of its more well-known offerings. Artist Josh Cockrell teams up with the brewery to design each label, and this one “reflects the funky, sour, barrel-aged stout held within,” according to 10Best.
Currently, Easy Tiger is ranked 18 out of 20, Jester King 15 out of 19, but there are another 24 days or so to vote and bring both of them higher into the rankings. Each person is allowed one vote per category per day.
