Mexican restaurant from longtime Austin chef closes
Few working chefs in Austin have the track record of Charles Mayes. The chef helmed Mother’s Cafe, Treaty Oak Cafe and Mañana Grille before opening Cafe Josie at the edge of Clarksville in 1997.
The modern Mexican restaurant lasted about a year but Mayes announced yesterday on Facebook that he was closing Cielo.
“To all our friends, old and new, we are grateful for the love and support you have demonstrated for Cielo Bistro Mexico,” Mayes wrote in the post. “At this time, we must tell you that we have closed. We are all part of an amazing community, so please believe we appreciate you!”
