Circle Brewing goes to the dogs with new Fido Firkin Friday benefits
This fall, North Austin’s Circle Brewing is getting philanthropic with a new way to give back while drinking beer.
Every Friday through Nov. 15, the brewery has teamed up with various local dog rescue groups for the Fido Firkin Friday event and will donate $1 back to each organization for every pour of a special firkin that is sold. What is a firkin, you might be thinking?
“We take one of our regular beers, cask-conditioned it with special ingredients to create a unique, small, one-off beer. Firkins are beers specific to the taproom,” according to Circle.
Because Circle makes beers that follow Reinheitsgebot — an old German purity law requiring that beers have only the four main ingredients of hops, water, yeast and malt — firkins are the only means for the brewery to add in fruit, herbs and other common adjuncts. (Generally, modern breweries don’t abide by the purity law, the best-known version of which was adopted in 1516.)
Fido Firkin Friday this week benefits Love-A-Bull, an Austin-based pit bull education and advocacy group. The event doubles as the 11th annual Pit Bull Awareness Day and will have carnival games and prizes, a food truck, dog and human costume contest, photo booth, Love-A-Bull’s adoptable pit bulls and a series of dog-related vendors.
Here’s the schedule for the upcoming Fido Firkin Friday events.
• Oct. 25: Love-A-Bull
• Nov. 1: Cocker Spaniel Rescue of Austin/San Antonio
• Nov. 8: Heart of Texas Lab Rescue
• Nov. 15: Austin German Shepherd Rescue
