Taco Flats serving street tacos, cocktails and homemade tortillas in Clarksville
The iconic Taco Flats brand now officially has two locations. About six months after the news that the Central Austin taqueria had purchased Zocalo in Clarksville, the restaurant is now officially open at 1100 West Lynn St.
Simon Madera rebooted the Taco Flats brand, which became legendary in Austin under founder Hector Alvarado and later owners Linda and Carl Steele, and moved it to Burnet Road in 2014.
The new location serves the same menu of interior Mexican and Rio Grande Valley-inspired tacos (al pastor, carne asada and carnitas) as the Burnet Road location, all served on handmade tortillas, and also offers a patio and full bar that specializes in cocktails made with agave spirits and fresh juices. Madera also owns the popular La Holly bar in East Austin.
“My mom grew up on a ranch outside of Zacatecas, Mexico, where they raised their own cattle and pigs, butchered their own meat, and made their own cheeses and tortillas by hand,” Madera said in a release. “She happily oversees essentials like our scratch-made tortillas and chips, picadillos, salsas, beans and rice.”
The new Taco Flats is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday-Wednesday and 10 a.m. till midnight Thursday-Saturday.
