Austin brewery releases rainbow-colored beer cans for Pride Month
Circle Brewing is also throwing a party June 1 to kick things off
A North Austin brewery has redesigned the can of one of its popular summer beers to support a good cause.
Circle Brewing has teamed up with Equality Texas during June's Pride Month to offer the Fanny Pack Kolsch in rainbow-colored cans. But that's not all: Starting next month, Circle plans to donate $1 for every case of the kolsch that's sold to the statewide nonprofit, which is dedicated to defending the rights of LGBTQ Texans.
The brewery wanted to make a statement with the branding of one of its cans, marrying "the label with what we believe in and what we stand for," Circle co-founder Ben Sabel said in a news release. "We care about (having) an inclusive environment for those drinking our beer.”
You can find the newly colorful Fanny Pack Kolsch in both the taproom and local retailers. Nothing has changed about the actual beer inside the can; the easy-drinking kolsch found within "is the beer equivalent of a backyard slip 'n' slide," according to Circle.
In honor of the partnership with Equality Texas, Circle will host a free Beer for All party officially launching the rainbow beer cans on June 1.
From 1 to 5 p.m. that day, you'll be able to snag your first six-pack of the new can, drink pints of the summer seasonal and enjoy live music and food truck grub while shopping from various local vendors. A limited Equality Texas glass will be available for purchase, too, with proceeds benefiting the organization. Plus, plenty of fanny packs will be on hand. Entry is free, and the event will be kid-friendly and dog-friendly.
Last year, Circle created a whole new beer, the Beto Pale Ale, in the hopes of inspiring civic engagement, inspired by former U.S. Rep. Beto O'Rourke (who is now running for president) and his grassroots Senate campaign.
