Coffee by day, cocktails by night is pretty much the routine of many an Austinite already, but a new bar on South Congress Avenue will allow us to do it all in one place.

Velouria is the latest project from Tim and Sara Lupa, the couple behind two east side hangouts the Brixton and Drinks Lounge. They teamed up with general manager Kelon Bryant, who has more than two decades' experience at Austin bars and restaurants such as the Continental Club, to open the cozy Velouria in the mixed-use development of the Davis SoCo, at 3801 S. Congress Ave., just north of U.S. 290.

“We’re excited to venture south to continue serving the community with straightforward, classic drinks in a space that we hope can feel like another ‘home base’ bar for the neighborhood," Tim Lupa said in a news release. "We really tried to capture that feeling in creating Velouria — no frills, just good people and good drinks in a cozy spot.”

Those drinks include pour-over coffee, espresso and cold-brew from Austin Roasting Co. during the day — along with pastries, breakfast tacos, sandwiches, salads and cheese boards — and classic drinks like martinis, Old Fashioneds, Negronis and Bee's Knees in the later hours. Frozen options such as an espresso martini and a mai tai are also on offer. The evening food menu, according to the news release, switches to bar snacks and more cheese and charcuterie boards.

The bar is currently in a soft open, but it will begin regular hours on April 21: 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily. Velouria is located on the northwest corner of the Davis SoCo Apartments, and free parking is available on the street, in the retail area of the Davis lots and below-ground in a parking garage that exits at the bar's patio.
