You can skip brunch this weekend and go to Bloody Mary Fest instead
We’d never normally advocate for skipping brunch — one of Austin’s most favorite meals of the week — but this weekend, there’s a pretty great alternative: the return of Bloody Mary Fest.
Started a few years ago by a local jewelry designer who loves the morning cocktail, Bloody Mary Fest will kick off at 11 a.m. on Saturday with a range of Bloody Marys from local bars and restaurants that you can taste and then choose among for your favorite. (Which might be harder than you think.)
Bloody Mary Fest doubles as a competition with two prizes, those of Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice. You’ll try booze from a range of participating Austin spots including Frank, Cannon + Belle, Geraldine’s, Shangri-La, Contigo and the new Cavalier bar in East Austin. Scholz Garten, where Bloody Mary Fest will be held, is also competing.
Once you’ve tried ‘em all, vote on the one you think is best. The competitors, according to CultureMap, will be judged based on the quality of their Bloody Mary mix, garnishes and showmanship.
The $15 tickets are still available and will get you the Bloody Mary tastings (as well as a full-blown complementary Bloody Mary!), a souvenir pint glass, the chance to vote in the People’s Choice category, and brunch and drink specials. There is also going to be live music and more. It’s a rain or shine event, so there’s no chance the predicted bad weather this weekend will ruin the fun.
