Distinctive Life, a funeral home with locations in Austin, Houston, San Antonio and Dallas, is introducing an art installation, able to be moved anywhere, that was created in the hopes of encouraging people to “seize the day,” according to a press release from the company.

The installation is a set of large metal letters — an ‘l,’ ‘v,’ and ‘e’ that can be positioned to spell the word “live,” with space for someone to stand in place of the ‘i.’ Distinctive Life brought the project first to Austin, setting up the letters at local places like Auditorium Shores and a CrossFit gym, but has plans for installations in the other Texas cities.

Funeral home founder Jeff Friedman noted in the release that Distinctive Life was inspired to create the installation “by the families we have served in the past. Our families chose to celebrate life and love, rather than hosting a somber funeral, which is a philosophy that we want to share with our community.”

The funeral home does offer traditional burial and cremation services, but “unlike your stereotypical funeral homes, Distinctive Life specializes in the newest funeral industry trends, including celebrations-of-life and out-of-the-box memorials,” according to the release. These memorials provided the idea for the art installation.
