Geosciences meets art
How does geoscience use art?
Kathy Ellins of UT’s institute of Geophysics says that geoscientists routinely embrace visual representation to convey information that cannot be appreciated by language or symbols alone. Art can enlighten the implications of research results and place science in a broader context – opening up science’s significance beyond the scientific practice.
Ellins will expound on the topic in a free lecture “Geosciences + Art” on Saturday at Art Science Gallery. Her talk is in conjunction with the current exhibit “Geo_” which features four artists who springboard on the concepts of geography, geometry and geology.
