From the City of Austin:

The X-Games will be in Austin beginning Thursday, June 5, 2014 through – Sunday, June 8, 2014 at the Circuit of the Americas. APD would like to make the public aware of street closures near the State Capitol in preparation before and during the event.

Street closures in the downtown area will begin on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 12:01 a.m., and will remain in place through noon on Friday, June 6, 2014 and will involve the following closures:

• Congress Avenue from the north curb line of 9th St. to the Capitol

• 11th St from Lavaca to the San Jacinto

• 10th St from Brazos to Colorado

• Northbound traffic on Brazos St. will be forced to turn east bound onto 11th St. out of the closure area

• Traffic going northbound on Lavaca St. should not be impacted

• Traffic going northbound on Congress Ave from 8th St. will encounter lane reductions and will be forced to turn eastbound onto 9th St.

• Traffic on 5th, 6th, 7th Streets should not be impacted

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area due to potential delays.

City Ordinance 12-1-25 (Obstructing Intersection or Crosswalk) prohibits motorists from entering an intersection or a marked crosswalk unless there is sufficient space on the other side of the intersection or crosswalk to accommodate the driver’s vehicle without obstructing the passage of other vehicles or pedestrians. (This was a big issue during SXSW and it just added to the gridlock!) Driver’s violating this are subject to being ticketed.
