X Games Austin: Wind puts Moto X freestyle on hold

UPDATE, 7:53 p.m. _ Riders are out on the course, practicing for Moto X. They’ll take an hour of practice to determine whether it’s safe to compete later tonight.

EARLIER _ Because of the windy conditions at Circuit of the Americas, the finals for Moto X Freestyle are on hold.

The competition was scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

Grace Coryell, a spokesperson for ESPN, told the American-Statesman, that there is “an ongoing discussion between athletes, ESPN safety and risk management and our sports and competition department.”

BMX riders are practicing for Big Air, which is set to start at 8:30. But ESPN announced on air that the event was on hold as well.

Winds, from the northeast, are blowing at 14 miles per hour, with gusts of up to 24.

For Moto freestyle, the bikes weigh 250 pounds.
