Training program combines running and beer

Rogue Running is starting a new training group with an emphasis on beer.

An info session for the Pints and PRs program is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. tonight (Tuesday) at Hops & Grain Brewery, 507 Calles Street.

The program, a combination of running, drinking beer and learning about beer, starts June 29 and ends Sept. 28.

Josh Hare, a longtime Rogue coach and the mastermind behind Hops & Grain Brewery, will lead quality workouts. A weekly educational component will focus on craft brews and craft brewing. Four of the long runs will begin at other local breweries, with tours afterward

Runners should be comfortable with at least a 3-5 mile long run on the first day. Organizers note that while the group will include challenging workouts, it’s primarily for fun. (Read “don’t count on this for marathon training.) Long runs will max out at about 12 miles.

Quality workouts will start at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays at Hops & Grain Brewery. Long runs will start at 7 a.m. Saturdays at Rogue downtown (with the exception of four field trip days).

Cost is $185 or $50 (for runners enrolled in other Rogue training programs) for the Saturday field trips only.
