Look for me at Keep Austin Weird 5K

I’m excited about tomorrow’s Keep Austin Weird 5K, particularly considering how much I’ve been running lately. Which is not much in the last month.
But promotional brochures note that this run is known as “the slowest 5K you’ll ever run,” and I’m determined to prove them right.
During the “race,” runners will pause for for ice cream samples, vodka and tequila tastings, and something called a hot-dog condiment slip ‘n slide complete with mustard, ketchup and relish. I hear the route also will include tables filled with tiny pies and bundt cakes. We’re also encouraged to wear costumes.
All this sounds very fun and exciting, except that temperatures will no doubt be hovering in the mid-90s, and I’m not sure what happens when you run in high temperatures, sample liquor and eat sweets, all while dressed in a gorilla suit.
Haven’t registered for the race yet? It’s not too late.
Online registration is open until 10 p.m. tonight at www.keepaustinweirdfest.com. You can also sign up in person during packet pickup from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Luke’s Locker, 115 Sandra Muraida Way, or in person between 2 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Auditorium Shores.
Entry fee is $55 for adults or $25 for kids. Tickets to just the festival are $30 each.
The festival runs from 2-10 p.m. The 5K starts at 7 p.m. outside the Long Center, 701 W. Riverside Drive; staging begins at 6:30 p.m.
