Camp supplies needed for Salvation Army kids

Thirty-five homeless children from the Austin Salvation Army shelters are headed to camp this summer, but they need basic supplies before they go.
Among the items needed are beach towels, water bottles, baseball caps and hats, sunscreen, travel-sized tubes of toothpaste, brushes, hand cleanser, backpacks, beach bags and swimsuits, flip flops, tennis shoes and shorts in all sizes.
Camp starts June 10 and lasts 10 weeks. Activities include swimming, exploring the outdoors, sports and games, animal studies and talent shows.
“Camp is big deal to the kids in Austin who are homeless,” says Marian Elzy, families case manager for Salvation Army. “It’s one escape the Austin Salvation Army can offer them so their parents can concentrate on moving from crisis to stability.”
Donations can be dropped off at 501 East 8th Street. Deadline is June 5.
