Three Austin runners - Michael Madison, Bob Wischnia and Ashish Patel - created the new site to fill the void created by the demise of the once popular www.runtex.com site, which hasn’t been updated since June.
TexasRunningPost.com will be a community site, rather than one sponsored by a particular store or group, Madison says. It will serve the Central Texas running, triathlon and adventure race community.
“We wanted a home for training articles, event features, guest blogs and Wish’s weekly ‘Heard Around the Lake,’” Madison says. “It had to be non-tribal in the sense that readers wouldn’t visit just because it was tied to a rival group or store. And we also found a need for a robust event section, listing every race in and around the area.”
The site launched Aug. 1 and got more than 2,000 hits the first day.
Besides a roundup of news stories (including one on why some runners smell like ammonia after a hard workout), it features training tips, information about training groups and an extensive event calendar. So far more than 300 races, from 5Ks to triathlons to adventure races, are included in the listings.
“Eventually we’ll create a forum for more real-time discussion and truly make it the home of runners, triathletes and cyclists in central Texas,” Madison says.
