I’m going to Wanderlust Festival on Friday!

If you’d told me a few years ago I’d be spending my Friday at a yoga festival, I’d have told you too much blood rushed to your head the last time you struck a scorpion pose.

Yoga wasn’t my thing. That was for extremely flexible people who chanted and meditated … and, well, no.

I’m still about as flexible as a branch of mesquite, but I have figured out that yoga is a wonderful thing. It calms me down, it stretches me out, it gives me an hour of peace in a day that’s packed with dashing off to interviews and clattering away at a computer keyboard.

This weekend, Wanderlust Festival brings its three-day mashup of yoga and music to downtown Austin, and I’m totally in.

The festival will include an array of yoga classes (including standup paddleboard yoga on Lady Bird Lake, hipster flow classes and something called “beastie” yoga!), organic food, live music and what’s sure to be an eclectic group of attendees. Also included are hooping workshops, guided runs, acroyoga performances and workshops with names like “Anatomy of an Arm Balance” and “Parenting Yogi Style.”

Instructors will include nationally-known Shiva Rea and Seane Corn, as well as Austin teachers Hilly Flora, Gioconda Parker and more. The musical lineup includes locals Shakey Graves & Ben Sollee, along with Wanderlust staples MC Yogi and DJ Drez.

The action will take place at the Wanderlust Yoga studio at 206 East Fourth Street and neighboring Brazos Hall, which has 10,000 square feet of indoor space and a 3,500-square foot rooftop deck with views of downtown.
