Next weekend’s fitness calendar is filling up quickly. Here are some highlights:

  • Lone Star Vaulters open house. The Lone Star Vaulters - a group of gymnasts who perform on the back of moving horses - will host an open house from 1-3 p.m. Dec. 14 at their training facility at September Song Stables, 4004 September Song Drive in Manchaca. The event will include a visit from Santa, holiday snacks, pony rides and a vaulting demonstration by champion horse vaulters from around the country. For more information, go to www.lonestavaulters.com.
  • HITS Running Festival. Choose your distance and run the track at the HITS Running Festival at Circuit of the Americas on Dec. 14. The lineup includes a Friends & Family Mile, a 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon and sprint duathlon. All distances will include sections of the speedway, which is rolling but manageable, and finish at pit lane. The half and full marathon will begin inside COTA, but also include roads on the perimeter of the property. And this just in - the marathon course, certified by USATF, is an official qualifying race for the 2015 Boston Marathon. A health, wellness and fitness expo is also planned. Register at HITSRunning.com.
  • Girls on the Run 5K. This fund-raising run benefits a non-profit training group that’s about more than just running - it’s a 12-week character development program that uses the power of running to teach elementary school girls about their personal power and the importance of being healthy and active. The race starts at 8 a.m. Dec. 14 at Walter E. Long Park, 6614 Blue Bluff Road. To register go to http://myraceregistration.com/EventView.asp?EVID=241.
