CrossFit Central Downtown will host the Fittest Games competition today and Saturday at the gym, 702 East 3rd Street.

About 500 athletes from Texas and beyond will hoist weights, sling ropes, flex muscles and race the clock as they compete for a portion of more than $20,000 in prize money.

It’s the seventh year of the event, which celebrates the CrossFit community - a group of people who embrace a particularly intense strength and fitness program.

The two-day, multi-workout event has grown into one of the largest CrossFit competitions in Texas. Athletes compete in amateur, pro, masters and team categories.

For more information, go to, or Spectator tickets are available online or at the door. Two-day passes are $25 and Saturday-only passes are $20.

The competition starts at 9 a.m. Friday.
