Bob Schuler plans six Ironman-distance tris on six continents

Because sometimes one Ironman-distance triathlon just isn’t enough, an Austin triathlete is aiming for six of them - on six different continents - all in one year.
Bob Shuler completed his first race in Florida earlier this month, and heads to Australia in March for his second. Then come races in South Africa, Taiwan, Spain and Brazil. Each event features a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and 26.2-mile run.
Along the way, Shuler, 58, is trying to raise $10,000 for Well Aware, an Austin-based nonprofit organization founded in 2006 that develops clean water systems in rural Kenya. That amount would provide 670 people with clean water for 20 to 30 years, according to Sarah Evans, executive director of Well Aware.
