Some cities have hot chocolate-themed races, but here in Austin we’re already hot enough. We’d rather slurp our chocolate frozen.

That’s why the national Hot Chocolate 15K series is putting a Texas spin on the run it’s bringing to Austin - it’s freezing the chocolate.

The Frozen Hot Chocolate 10K and 5K is scheduled for Sept. 6 at the Circuit of the America, 9201 Circuit of the Americas Boulevard. Besides the usual water stations, the course will include a few decadent chocolate stations. At the finish line, runners can fill their finisher mugs with chocolate slush and nibble fondue and other snacks. They’ll also receive a chocolate bar-shaped finisher’s medal.

The price for all this indulgence? Not cheap. Entry fee is $44 for the 5K, $59 for the 10K or $25 for a 1.5-mile walk at But that gets you a fitted technical T-shirt, sports sunglasses and a reusable drawstring bag, organizers point out.

The 5K starts at 7:45 a.m. and the 10K starts at 8:15 a.m. at the track, 9201 Circuit of the Americas Boulevard.

The series is produced by RAM Racing, based in Chicago. The first official Hot Chocolate 15K takes place in Denver Oct. 5, followed by a Nov. 9 race in Chicago.
