Drink of the Week: Drink.Well’s Blood and Money

Austin bartender Dennis Gobis, whose pub Drink.Well is always creating innovative cocktails, certainly knows his way around a bar — so much so that he’s a finalist in Domaine De Canton’s Global Bartender of the Year Contest on Monday, representing the Midwest.

Domaine de Canton, a ginger-flavored liqueur, has hosted the contest for five years running and will give out $10,000 to the winning bartender, who will face off with the other contestants to create a drink judged on creativity and taste.

Here’s the recipe for Gobis’ Blood and Money, which he’ll mix up at the final showdown featuring bartenders from France, Italy and other regions around the U.S. Featuring mezcal and sake in addition to Domaine de Canton, the cocktail is certainly fit for an international competition.

Blood and Money

1.5 oz Domaine de Canton

1 oz Blood Orange Juice

.5 oz Del Maguey Chichicapa Mezcal

.5 Hakatsuru Draft Sake

.5 Strawberry Puree

3 dashes Rice Wine Vinegar

2 dashes Orinoco Bitters

Combine all ingredients into shaker tin and shake vigorously. Double strain into coupe. Garnish with blood orange slice and shiso flag.
