Events: July 4th chili cook-off at Becker, Burgers ‘n’ Blues lunch

Becker Vineyards is hosting a chili cook-off from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 4 that will raise money for the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Fredericksburg. Tasting tickets cost $5 for 10 samples, and you can contact Alan Dean at 512-567-2835 if you are interested in competing. If you’re hoping to get your feet dirty in the winery’s annual grape stomp, mark your calendars for August 24, 25, 31 and Sept. 1. For more information, go to beckervineyards.com.

Fall Creek Vineyards, located 80 miles northwest of Austin, celebrates the holiday with its eighth annual Burgers ‘n Blues on Saturday, July 6. The winery welcomes chef Paul Petersen, who has cooked at the Gage Hotel in Marathon and Vivo Lake Creek, for an afternoon of burgers, wine tastings, bocce ball and music. Tickets for the lunch cost $15 and can be purchased at FCV.com.

On Saturday, Kerrville is hosting the Texas Hill Country Wine & Brew Festival from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Comanche Trace, 2801 Comanche Trace Drive. Tickets cost $35 for 10 tickets to sample beer and wine from Hill Country brewers and winemakers, including 4.0 Cellars, William Chris, Real Ale and Pedernales Brewing Company. Juniper Hills Farm owner Sibby Barrett teaches cooking classes on her property outside Blanco, and she’s also hosting monthly dinners, some of which will feature live music. On July 13, she’s hosting an Italian dinner ($75), and on August 10, she’ll serve a picnic dinner for a concert with Terri Hendrix and Lloyd Maines ($85). On August 17, she’s serving a farmers’ market feast ($95), and on September, 28, she’ll prepare a seafood feast ($125). The Austin Food Blogger Alliance is hosting its second annual Cupcakes and Cocktails fundraiser from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, July 19, at the Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, 3110 Esperanza Crossing. The event, which is raising money for the ARC of the Capital Area, will feature drinks from Treaty Oak Distilling, T1 Tequila and Hops and Grain, as well as cupcakes from Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop, SugaPlump Pastries, Swift’s Attic, Delish, Blue Note Bakery, Butter Stick Bakery and Crema Bakery and Cafe. Slow Food Austin is hosting a Grub Trivia fundraiser from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 21 at the Shoal Crossing Event Center, 8611 N. MoPac (Loop 1). The nonprofit is hosting a pub-style trivia event with up to 30 teams competing at the same time. Two to six people can compete on a team, and the entry fee for each team is $200.
