Austin-based Dark Rye wins James Beard Award for best group food blog

Dark Rye , the online magazine that Whole Foods Market launched about a year ago, won the James Beard Foundation Award for Best Group Food Blog at an awards ceremony Friday night in New York City.

The magazine, spearheaded by Vadan Less , Whole Foods’ senior director of video content, is a video-heavy production from about a dozen other Austin-based Whole Foods content producers and editors.

Also nominated in the category were Grub Street and Eater National .

Dai Due chef/owner Jesse Griffiths’ debut book, “Afield,” was nominated in the book category but did not win. During the chef awards, which will take place on Monday, Bryce Gilmore of Barley Swine is up for Best Chef: Southwest.
