HOPE, Mueller markets canceled; Highland Mall market open

Austin City Limits Music Festival food vendors aren’t the only food businesses taking a hit because of last night’s heavy rainfall and today’s flooding.

HOPE and Mueller farmers market organizers called off their Sunday markets today, but the Barton Creek Farmers Market at Highland Mall will be open until 2 p.m.

Carla Jenkins, who is the market manager for both the Mueller and Cedar Park farmers markets, says that this is the first time in four years that she’s canceled a market. “I was more sensitive to it because I live in Sunset Valley. We had 11 1/2 inches and the creek got within 20 feet of our house, which has never happened. Then I started hearing about road closures, so it’s a safety issue. I don’t want to encourage people to go through a low water crossing trying to make it to a farmers market,” she said.
