Toms opens Austin coffee shop, adds one-for-one coffee

Addie Broyles

During South by Southwest, Toms opened its second retail location at 1401 S. Congress Ave., but you won’t find only shoes and glasses for sale.

The California-based company, which has popularized the one-for-one model in which every product purchased results in a donation of a similar product somewhere else, recently launched its third initiative: coffee. For every bag of Toms Roasting Co. coffee purchased, the company, in partnership with the nonprofit Water For People, will provide one week of clean water to a person in need in the countries in Africa, South and Central America from which the coffee is harvested.

Through Toms Roasting Club, customers can sign up for a subscription service that delivers the coffee each month. A single 12-ounce bag per month costs about $15.99, depending on which kind of coffee you order, but two or more bags start at $11.99 each. (The subscription price includes free shipping.)

Customers can buy single bags of coffee online for $12.99, but they are also available at the Austin shop, which in addition to the retail space includes a small coffee bar. You can find out more at
