Whole Foods Market has been getting a lot of attention in recent years for its expansion efforts in the Austin area, but one grocer we haven’t heard much from lately is Sprouts Farmers Market.

You’ll remember that Sprouts, which despite its name is not a farmers market, made a big splash when it first came into the Austin area in 2009, opening four stores in a year and then merging with low-price natural grocer competitors Sun Harvest and Sunflower Farmers Market in 2011 and 2012. It closed a few stores in the merger process, but now is gearing up to open its first new store in five years.

The 27,000-square foot store will open at 1530 Cypress Creek Road in Cedar Park on Aug. 27. The store will employee about 100 people and will be the fifth location in the Austin area.
