Lots of food news to catch up on from the past two weeks.

A Subway employee in Leander is suing the company over the prepaid cards he is getting instead of a traditional paycheck.

Road construction downtown giving you a headache? Michael Girard, owner of TenOak, Imperia and Speakeasy, says that businesses in the Warehouse District have lost at least $10 million in sales because of prolonged closures, and he’s suing the city over it.

Matthew Odam made quite the splash when he did not name Franklin Barbecue as the best barbecue in the city. La Barbecue, his top pick, has been all over social media today because some ne’er do wells tipped over their bathrooms. Meanwhile, the line at Franklin’s is still long, and let’s just hope folks get the memo that they’ll be closed for two weeks in late June and early July.

Whislers has a new mezcal bar that is open Thursday through Sunday, and Snap Kitchen recently moved their pod to the Thinkery, the new children’s museum. Cedar Park is home to the first location of a Chipotle-style pizzeria called Pieology.

If you like pineapple juice, I have a feeling you’re love Argus Cidery’s new product: a fermented pineapple juice called tepache.

Ross Burtwell, the Cabernet Grill owner who has a new cookbook out, has a bunch of book signing events scheduled for June and July at area wineries.

Lionfish, those beautiful but venemous tropical fish, are taking over the Gulf of Mexico, and one of the best solutions — as with most invasive species — is to eat them. I don’t know of any restaurants in Austin that are serving them just yet, but Cove in Houston is.
