Events: Steven Raichlen dinner at Jasper’s, and more

Jasper’s at the Domain is hosting a wine dinner on May 21 with cookbook author Steven Raichlen, whose newest book is “Man Made Meals: The Essential Cookbook for Guys” (Workman, $24.95). Tickets ($85 per person) include a signed copy of the book. The meat-centric meal including a teriyaki salmon, coffee-crusted pork tenderloin and a five-hour duck. Author Michael Pollan will return to Austin on May 22 for a book event at BookPeople for the paperback release of his bestselling book, “Cooked: A Natural Transformation” (Viking Penguin, $17), which examines food and cooking culture through the elements of fire, water, air and earth. Pollan, who also appears in “Fed Up,” a new documentary about the industrial food industry’s marketing techniques, will talk about his book and other issues in food activism starting at 7 p.m. For more information, go to BookPeople.com.

From 1 to 7 p.m. on May 31, Austin Saengerrunde, 1607 San Jacinto Blvd., next to Scholz Beer Garten, will host the second annual Maifest, a traditional German Alpine celebration that will feature beer from breweries including Austin Beerworks, Hops & Grain, Karbach Brewing Co. and Live Oak Brewing Company. Proceeds from tickets ($25 at saengerrunde.org) will benefit Foodways Texas.

On May 30, Austin Council of the Blind is hosting a Dining in the Dark fundraiser at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 6121 N. Interstate 35. Members of the council will serve a multi-course dinner in a totally darkened room. Tickets cost $75 and are available by calling 512-348-7721. Guests should RSVP by May 27.
