Austin360Eats: Oysters at Quality Seafood Market

We’re officially in the “R” months, the stretch of the year when oysters for many years were considered “safe” to eat.

But now that that food safety myth has been debunked, we’re free to eat oysters every month of the year, and as such, Kristin Sheppard (@madbettyatx on Instagram) took full advantage of the raw oyster bar at Quality Seafood Market, 5621 Airport Blvd., last weekend.

(And yes, if you pay close attention to this running feature in print, you’ll notice I screwed up this myth in the section today because I’ve always misunderstand when you were/weren’t supposed to eat oysters. “R” months were when you were supposed to eat oysters, not when they were “off-limits,” which is what I said today. My bad.)

The blogger behind MadBetty.com enjoyed a platter of oysters on the half shell served with nothing more than wedges of lemon and cocktail sauce, and her photo got me thinking that I’m far overdue for some salty oyster slurping.

Where do you like to grab oysters in town? Matthew Odam rounded up his favorite places in an Austin360 list earlier this year that included Hillside Farmacy, Foreign & Domestic, Parkside, Perla’s and Sway.
