The fourth week in April is National Karaoke Week. We think! Maybe! Depends who you ask. No one is ever sure who designates these unofficial holidays. But that’s what the internet says, and we’ve never been shy around a microphone, so let’s roll with it.

Here is a list of karaoke spots around the city. It’s not definitive, but it’s a good start to making a glorious, tuneful fool of yourself.

Austin Karaoke: This venue features nine private rooms; a small room fits up to eight people, and a large room fits up to 50. Austin Karaoke is open later than most places, so it’s a great nocturnal activity. Karaoke 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. Sunday-Thursday, 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday and Saturday. (6808 N. Lamar Blvd., 512-323-9822,austinkaraoke.net)

Boomerz Nightclub: An Oak Hill neighborhood bar. Karaoke 9:30 p.m. on Thursday. (6148 U.S. 290, 512-892-3373,boomerzaustin.com)

DK Sushi Restaurant: The north location of the sushi restaurant holds its famous raunchy karaoke night on Thursday. Making a same day reservation is usually wise, as the time slots tend to fill up quickly. (5610 N. Lamar Blvd., 512-302-1090,dksushi.com)

Ego’s: Tucked away in a covered parking lot, Ego's is a popular karaoke dive bar with a single stage. The bar has won several awards as the best karaoke spot in town, and the crowd is generally happy and heckler free. Those interested in taking the stage should arrive early, as the wait to sing can be as long as two hours on crowded nights. Karaoke 9 p.m. every night. (510 S. Congress Ave., 512-474-7091,facebook.com/Egos)

The Highball: The 21-and-older karaoke at Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar is just as funky as you’d expect it to be. Featuring seven private, themed rooms available for reservation, the designs inside range from black metal to the Black Lodge, from Super Mario to Jem (a truly outrageous room). Highball is open 4 p.m. to midnight Monday-Thursday; 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday; 1 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday; and 1 p.m. to midnight Sunday. (1120 S. Lamar Blvd., 512-383-8309,thehighball.com/karaoke)
