Community Blood Drive tops area events

The Bee Cave-Spicewood Rotary Club will hold a clothing drive. Donation locations will include the Bee Cave Police Department, 13333 Texas 71, Austin; the Bee Cave Public Library, 4000 Galleria Parkway; A+ Federal Credit Union, 3600 Ranch Road 620 S, Austin; and Broadway Bank, 12101 Bee Cave Road, Austin. Area residents are invited to participate in the Lakeway Civic Corporation Community Blood Drive from 8 a.m. to noon at The Lakeway Church, 2203 Lakeway Blvd. The venue has changed to The Lakeway Church for this date. The local agency that supplies all of the blood for the area is The Blood Center of Central Texas, and all blood collected stays in the Central Texas service area. In 2015, more than 430 units of blood were collected at the Lakeway drives. To donate, make an appointment online at inyourhands.org and follow the instructions. Local author Sofia Besondy will make a presentation and hold a book-signing session at 6 p.m. at the Lake Travis Community Library, 1938 Lohmans Crossing. Besondy’s book, “Creating an Extraordinary Marriage After Divorce,” is an autobiography that details how, after two failed marriages, Besondy said she finally learned to “let go and let God.”

Pianist Randy Dennis will perform at 4 p.m. at the Lake Travis Community Library,1938 Lohmans Crossing. After more than a decade of touring and performing with a number of top Nashville recording artists, Dennis came home to the Texas Hill Country where he has continued to play with well-knowns groups, including Austin’s party band Duck Soup.
The Bee Cave Police Benevolent Foundation’s 2016 Gala will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Sonesta Bee Cave Hotel, 12525 Bee Cave Parkway. The gala will include appetizers, a dinner, a cash bar, music and silent and live auctions. Cost: $100 per ticket; $900 for a table of 10. The foundation provides financial assistance to the Bee Cave Police Department and other area public safety employees and their families and supports community and law enforcement initiatives, memorials, scholarships and educational programs.
