Arts picks, Nov. 28-Dec. 4: Blue Genie and Renegade Craft Fair

Jeanne Claire van Ryzin

Blue Genie Art Bazaar. It’s simply the hippest holiday art fair in town. Now in its 14th year of operation, the Blue Genie Art Bazaar manages to keep it weird while also keeping shopping for original locally made gifts as hassle-free and fun as possible. More than 200 artists and artisans set up individual gallery-like booths. But centralized check-out stations — as well as a full bar — make the whole bazaar relaxing. A portion of proceeds goes to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday-Dec. 24, Marchesa Hall and Theatre, 6226 Middle Fiskville Road. Free.

Renegade Craft Fair. This fair celebrates the creativity of more than 100 indie craft makers. Selections include stationery, gift wrap, one-of-a-kind jewelry, housewares and environmentally friendly furniture. Shoppers can enjoy free workshops, including building bath salts with Leafdistrict and embroidered card-making at Pom Pom Quarterly. DJs from Waterloo Records will spin tunes as you check items off your gift list. 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Palmer Events Center, 900 Barton Springs Road.
