February ratings show KVUE with early-morning lead
Last fall, KTBC and KVUE began starting their morning newscasts half an hour early, at 4:30 a.m.
In the November 2010 sweeps, Fox affiliate KTBC had a slight, two-tenths of a point edge over its rival. Both local efforts continue to best the competing CBS and NBC network feeds, but a reversal of fortune has found ABC affiliate KVUE on top at that early hour by more than half a ratings point in the just-concluded critical February sweeps ratings period, which ran from Feb. 3 to March 2. KVUE retains that lead at 6 a.m., while NBC affiliate KXAN rises to second place.
In the 5 p.m. local news slot, Univision outlet KAKW dropped just enough and KTBC rose just enough to find themselves in a tie for third place (KVUE retains its lead with KXAN more than a point and a half behind in second place). All of the local numbers at that hour are down from those posted a year earlier during sweeps.
Viewership is up for the local 10 p.m. newscasts from November 2010, with KXAN surging more than 1.5 points to take second place from CBS affiliate KEYE.
