A Tyler woman told police she needed Big Red, not a hospital. A compromise was struck.

Today from the “me, too” files: An injured East Texas woman got to have her soda and drink it, too.

According to the Tyler Police Department’s Facebook page, two paramedics were called out by the police department to assist with a welfare check involving an “older female with medical issues,” a Tuesday post reads. The woman was on the floor and unable to stand up, according to the paramedic who wrote the post, and she refused to go to the hospital despite being encouraged to do so. The police officers on the scene, Sgt. Zach Noble and officer Charles Johnson, also tried to convince the woman to go to the hospital, according to the post.

“All I want is a Big Red to drink and I will be fine,” the paramedic quoted the woman as saying.

According to the paramedic’s post, Noble told the woman he would buy her a Big Red and bring it to the hospital if she agreed to medical evaluation.

“I thought he was bluffing so that she would agree to go to the hospital,” the paramedic wrote in the post. “I could hardly believe it when Sergeant Noble arrived minutes later at the hospital with an ice cold Big Red for her.”
