WATCH: McConaughey shares new catch phrases over bourbon with Stephen Colbert

The prince of Austin Matthew McConaughey joined CBS “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert on the couch Monday night ostensibly to publicize his role as the Man in Black in the film adaptation of Stephen King’s novel “The Dark Tower.”

But McConaughey also continued to shamelessly plug Wild Turkey as the Kentucky bourbon maker’s “creative director,” by sharing a glass with Colbert.

The actor, screen icon and Uvalde-born raconteur who calls Austin home also shared a surprising secret love of Colbert’s 22-year-old sketch comedy show “Exit 57,” which co-starred Amy Sedaris in it blink-and-you-missed-it run on Comedy Central.

McConaughey sticks around for multiple segments of the show, including a re-creation of an “Exit 57” sketch that McConaughey says was the inspiration for a nickname he still uses on one of his best friends.

But Colbert couldn’t let his first meeting with McConaughey go without talking about the actor’s most famous catch phrase – which the studio audience shouted out – “Alright, alright, alright.”

McConaughey, who said the phrase turns 25 years old this month, offered a couple of new gems of profound stoner wisdom, including: “Kiss the fire and walk away whistling.”

Colbert responded with a chestnut of his own: “Lick the lion’s mane and call me Captain Thunder.”
