You probably forgot to mark it on your calendar, but the Texas Funeral Directors Association has been holding their 2017 convention in Austin this week.
I’m sure it’s been a lively (or not?) event — it wraps up Thursday night with a gala that is a formal event with a “neon” theme, in line with the “Keep Austin Weird” motto, according to this document.
But that’s not the only “Keep Austin Weird” feature of this year’s convention.
Star of Texas Casket Company, based in Elgin, which specializes in handcrafted solid wood caskets, is attending this year’s convention (alongside such exhibitors as “Sentiments Unlimited” and “Body Scoop by B-Mobile”) and they’ve created something to show off.
On their Facebook page, they posted an elegant wood casket, opened to reveal an explosion of tie-dye lining.
In the comments, Star of Texas Casket Co. notes that the casket is available to the public.
The 131st Annual Texas Funeral Directors Association Expo is happening right now at the Palmer Events Center.
